A chemical peel is the application of a chemical solution to remove the outer layers of skin, improving texture and revealing smoother, clearer, more radiant skin. Peels can treat areas on the face, and most can also treat the neck and hands. There are different degrees or levels of peel:

  • Light peels use alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs)
  • Medium peels use trichloroacetic acid (TCA)
  • Deep peels use phenol
  • After the top layer of skin is sloughed away, new, fresh skin regenerates without imperfections, lines and wrinkles. Deeper chemical peels or CO2 laser resurfacing are an effective treatment for extreme wrinkling caused by overexposure to the sun.

At skiin, we offer a variety of medical-grade chemical peels for the Milwaukee, WI, area. Chemical peels are very important for overall skin health and are not the frightening-sounding procedures they used to be. Advanced peels of today exfoliate your skin with little downtime and better results. The peels we offer at skiin are customized for your skin and provide maximum benefits.

What Is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a safe treatment applied directly to the skin for rapid exfoliation to even out complexion irregularities and provide a healthier-looking, glowing face. There are many different types of peels that use different active ingredients at varying strengths for customized results.

Who Can Benefit from Chemical Peels?

Peels are ideal for women and men who want to address any of a number of cosmetic imperfections, including irregularities in skin tone and texture, fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, hyperpigmentation and sun damage, acne scars and other superficial marks, acne and blemish breakouts, or rosacea symptoms.

How Do I Decide Which Chemical Peel Is Right for Me?

During your skin-care consultation, one of our licensed aestheticians will evaluate the condition of your skin and recommend a regimen customized to your specific cosmetic needs.

What Should I Expect During and After a Chemical Peel?

During treatment, you may feel a slight warming or stinging sensation on your skin, but this should last only for a few minutes. Your procedure will be completed in under an hour, and you will be given post-procedure instructions by your aesthetician.

After your session is over, your skin may appear pink and be a little sensitive to the touch for a while. You shouldn’t wear any makeup during this time, but should definitely apply sunscreen for protection against ultraviolet radiation.

Within a few days, you may find that your skin is beginning to peel. This is the exfoliation process in action, when the dead cells are shed and fresher, younger skin is revealed. If you don’t notice any shedding or flaking, that does not mean the chemical peel did not work. Each person’s skin reacts in its own way to the treatment, with some clients finding that their exfoliation happens on an entirely cellular level. The benefits are the same.

No matter the level of peeling—from significant to invisible—be sure to stay properly moisturized and protected from UV radiation.
